Trainer Kite Essentials PDF Print E-mail

Once you get your trainer kite in the air, practice holding it still straight above your head. We'll call this position 12 o'clock. Do this for 60 secs. Then move the kite over to 45 degrees on the right and left and hold the kite still for 60 sec. on each side. Once your are able to hold the kite steady in the spot that you choose, try flying a figure eight pattern in front of you. The eight will be laying on its side like an infinity symbol. After doing 25 figure eights try starting with the kite at 12 and diving it down to one side and bringing it back up to 12. Continue flying in this manner for 25 passes and then do the same on the other side. Now you are ready for one hand flying! Bring the kite to 12 and move one hand to the center of the bar and keep the kite still at 12. Try switching hands. Do one handed flying practice at the 45 degree positions as well. This drill is very important because you need to fly a kite with one hand to get the board on your feet! After you have mastered this try sitting down and flying one handed, then taking off your shoes. Multi-tasking is a major key to kiteboarding.
