Lanboarding with a kite is a great way to experience the feeling of kiteboarding without getting wet, or if you are too young to take lessons. Most of the skills required to kitesurf can be learned on the land with a trainer kite and landboard, and it is easier! Other advantages include: not as much wind required, less kite needed, stay warm and dry, and it can be done anywhere there is wind and open space (no water required). We have top of the line MBS mountain boards available for rent and purchase. These boards have industrial size wheels, trucks (axles), and decks made to conquer the earth. All you need is a trainer kite to provide some power and speed and you are off going.
The best places to Landboard with a kite on South Padre Island are the large expanses of sand and open space. Luckily, many area like this exist on the island. The South Flats located just north of town are a top location to learn and practice kite land boarding. Also, the North Flats, which is a similar set up to the South Flats has great places to mountain board with a kite. The sand flats are very wide areas of compact sand exceeding several football fields in available terrain to landboard on. With no power lines or trees, these locations are fantastic to kite landboard, and it's hard to find anything quite like it in the world. Also, the beach accesses north of Town have large sandy beaches perfect for kiting on the ground. Make sure you stay clear of cars and beach goers while flying your trainer kite and land boarding around.
