When all other kite boarding locations in the United States are having freezing temperatures and water too cold to get in, South Padre Island stays reasonable. Average air and water temperatures through the winter months are in the 60s. This means that you can continue to learn how to kite board even in the Holiday season. The wind is consistent throughout the winter and spring. Steady north winds sweep the island daily, creating great learning conditions in the Laguna Madre Bay. Most people get away with a 3/2 full wetsuit to stay warm on lessons. With full boat support, radio helmets, windy conditions, and the reduced lesson rates you can't go wrong!

South Padre Island, Texas is located at the southern tip of the United States of America. The island is positioned just off the eastern coast of Texas, directly above Mexico. South Padre is graced with steady winds year round. In the winter season, there is a fight between the north winds and the south. As cold fronts approach the area, it pulls in the warm Caribbean winds for several days. Once the cold fronts hit, the wind changes direction from the south to north. The north winds crank, then taper off over the week. Temperatures during the south winds are generally 70 - 80 degrees Fahrenheit, and 50 - 60 degrees Fahrenheit while the north fronts pass through.
