Have you seen these new water bikes? Single person bicycles made for cruising the open water adds a whole new dimension to bicycle riding as you know it! Imagine looking down while biking and instead of seeing pavement or sand, you can look down into the clear water of the Laguna Madre Bay. Fish swimming by, sting rays gliding past, and other marine wildlife are right underneath your feet!
These crazy new water bike rentals – made by Hydro Bikes – are the newest thing to happen at our rental shop on South Padre. Essentially, these water vehicles consist of two hydro-dynamic pontoons that support a bike frame in the middle. Similar to a regular peddle bike, you sit in the middle on a nicely padded bike seat, peddle with legs and steer with your arms. These water bikes are quite maneuverable – able to go backwards, forwards, and make fairly sharp turns. They are also reasonably stable, and there is little chance of them tipping or falling over. However, you do have to be careful not to run aground with the under water proper in the shallow areas of the bay!
6 water bikes in total are available to rent from 9am – 5pm, with direct access to the bay water by way of our private boat docks and ramp. If you have larger parties than six, feel free to take turns riding or rent additional watersports equipment such as stand up paddleboards and kayaks.
